i got to work this morning to find these pictures, and a few more, in my inbox. what a joy to start your day with! my contact, A., also sent me a separate email detailing some of the presentation yesterday afternoon (subject: YOU ARE THE BEST!). i had wanted to cry just looking at the photos, but after reading the email, there were definite tears. a complete affirmation of the work that i do and will continue to do for our servicemembers.

here's a little bit of the email:

"My boss, Captain W read several paragraphs from your journal, said some moving words. Then the Admiral said a few words and then CDR. LeBel told an abbreviated version of her story. I don't think there was a dry eye in the room. It was very touching and it was your quilt which brought us all together. For me personally, it was a reality check on what our service members do each day they are fighting the war on terrorism and ultimately for our freedom.

I am honored that you are our Safe Harbor quilt maker. I should say you with the assistance of your son. "

honestly - who wouldn't cry at that? my kiddo wants to help me make the QOVs and has asked if he can make one for the wounded. he's 6. i think that's pretty incredible that at such a young age, he recognizes the comfort these quilts will bring to those who need it most and that he wants to do his part. he's never sewn a thing in his little life, but i have purchased him a small sewing machine for him to learn on. i'll help him, but i know he will make one eventually.
