spring to finish challenge

for my spring to finish challenge update, i have 2 QOVs to show you:

QOV #2 - anchors-a-swirl dedicated to the us navy

i would have had this one completed a few weeks ago, but it was sent back to me unfinished. i finished it about an hour ago and caught a few pictures before the sun was too low in the sky. the borders were hand-quilted with a connecting wave pattern and then it was bound in the same solid red fabric that makes up the backing.

QOV #3 is a simple block, but alternated to form the crosses. i like how something so simple can turn out so pretty.

on top of these two finishes, i made the flowered skirt the first week of the month. it's a happy skirt, don't you think? i need happy lately. and i did finish the scarf that i rediscovered in my knitting bag last week. i don't have pictures - it's put away already for christmas. i finished it off with fringe in the same pale green and added a pale yellow yarn of the same type wool/cotton combo. it's nice and warm for the winter. plus, the new baby will like to play with something soft too. :)

my total may "spring to finish" finishes: 4. not as many as i had hoped, but i still got some things done. i'm not counting my dia de los muertos quilt top since it's just the top and i haven't done more work on it.

now....tomorrow, i get to do a random generator and pick the winner of my may day giveway. if you haven't already entered, go over to it quickly - you have just under 3 hours left!

back to watching the red wings kick penguin butt. it should continue, right?

qov #2 and my spring to finish update

qov #2 - anchors-a-swirl

happy friday folks! last night, i finished up the final border on the QOV #2. i requested the longarmmer on tuesday and am still waiting for my assigned person to send it to. i LOVE this one, don't you? if you can click on the picture to see it bigger, i suggest doing that so you can see the fabrics closer. the backing will be a solid fire engine red. i'm thinking of doing the binding in the same navy star fabric as the border when it comes back from the quilter, but we'll see. maybe a nice white to brighten it up more? that's snappy hiding behind it...he wants to keep the quilt.

the completion of the QOV quilt top goes on my list for the spring to finish challenge. i know it's not "complete" complete, but it's as far as i can go for now and this one took a while to do. all the strips and triangles and turning each square in a different way to get the pattern...

i'm almost done with the gift quilt - 2 sides of the border to quilt and then bind and label. maybe i could finish it this weekend? maybe...depends on if i get to drawing a bit instead for some "me time." i haven't completed a drawing in a while now and this one was started months and months ago but neglected for quilts instead. if i got cracking on it, i could add this drawing to my "spring to finish" list. it's the first of three for a series that i want to do.

i finished my first quilt of valor today - the label on the right was the last thing to do (other than finishing the presentation case that is sitting on my drafting table...). the quilt will be shipped off tomorrow to washington, d.c. to prepare for cdr. lebel's arrival and their taking it to her. i wish i could be there to see it and give it to her myself. maybe one day i will have the opportunity to present one in person.

my longarm quilter did a fantastic job and it's all swirly/wavy. it's perfect.

my hubby wasn't home and my 6-yr old is too short, so once again...the quilt is spread out and i can't get the entire thing in one shot. i need to rig up a clothesline in the yard so i can hang them. but today was cloudy and overcast, so the light wasn't good anyways.

so... this is #1 in my spring to finish challenge. next up - finish the gift. then it's QOV #2 piecing and send it to the longarmmer. and start handquilting boo's dr. seuss quilt. MAYBE i'll have a chance to sew a skirt or dress for myself. the easter dress wasn't started...oops.
